Back when Devin Washington was 18, he thought he was going in for a standard job interview at a Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen location in New Orleans. He had no idea he was about to become something of a hero.
What happened? Washington foiled an attempted robbery that happened in the middle of his job interview. Here’s how it went down (or skim to the bottom and watch the video report)…
A man walked in and approached the cashier of the restaurant, asking for change for a dollar. Apparently, once the cash drawer was open, the man reached across the counter and helped himself to some cash, then bolted for the door.
That’s when Assistant Manager Danyanna Metoyer grabbed for the robber’s arm and the two struggled together, before Washington stepped into action.
This calm, “gentle giant” didn’t hesitate to do the right thing. And it paid off.
Washington held the suspect with his hands behind him, and kept him there until police were able to arrive.
“It was the first time I had ever seen this,” Metoyer told CNN.
Needless to say, Washington was offered a job. Metoyer said it wasn’t due to the brave act, but that it “certainly didn’t hurt.”
“Devin was considered for being hired before this even happened,” said Metoyer.
Washington started his new job as a cook on Monday, just two days after the robbery.
